Study
Area Context
The study area boundary extends outward
from the Town Centre to include the Baltic Quay initiatives,
the site for the proposed Baltic Business Quarter,
The Ochre Yards residential development and Tynegate
and St James sites to the south east.
The study area can broadly be divided
into a series of zones. These are Gateshead Quays,
Baltic Business Quarter, Oakwellgate to Tynegate, Town
Centre, Ochre Yards/Sculpture Park and Town Park. Connecting
may of these zones is the historic Townscape Heritage
Initiative around the Bottle Bank/viaduct area.
To aid navigation around the
study area the key areas that are subsequently referred
to later in the document are identified.
